Bob is a founding member of Smith Freed Eberhard. In the course of his 40 year career Bob has conducted over 500 Examinations Under Oath, has defended over 300 arbitrations, and has tried approximately 150 cases to a jury verdict. He also defended the first methamphetamine clean up case in the county, for which he was interviewed by the Wall Street Journal.
Eleven years after graduating from law school, Bob decided that he wanted to take a chance and start his own law firm. Determined to create a firm where clients would be valued, attorneys could grow professionally, and everyone would still have fun, Bob set up shop as "M. Robert F. Smith, P.C." Soon after, a close friend and colleague named Dennis Freed partnered with him. When Jeff Eberhard joined the firm a year later Smith Freed & Eberhard was born.
Since that time, Bob has continually worked to grow and develop the firm into what it is today. In order to help get Smith Freed & Eberhard's Seattle office off the ground, Bob lived up there for a year. In addition to working his own cases, Bob also thoroughly enjoys mentoring young associate attorneys on commercial liability claims. Passing on the wisdom and experience that he has gained over the years is just one of the many ways that Bob continues to improve the firm that he founded.
